Energy Production Reporting System

The user collected hand-written reports from various field personnel and entered the data into an Excel spreadsheet, one spreadsheet per day. We replaced that manual data processing system, and the automation provided by this system cut the data entry and validation time in half and saved storage space on the user’s computer. Reports and graphs are now available for any time period simply by entering the time period desired. This application has also been opened up through the web so that external users can view reports and graphs at any time.

Advertising Management System for Newspaper and Radio

The client owns several different publications including a daily newspaper and several regional periodicals. It was a monumental task to keep track of all of the different advertisements being run in the various publications on the various days. Our program replaced an Excel spreadsheet system that documented the advertisers’ activity in a given publication. Now, advertisement information is gathered including the ad size, colors, publication date and any special considerations. A report is generated that shows the ads scheduled for any given publication on any given date. This system is interfaced to an automated layout application that takes the space dimensions of each ad and provides a default print layout of the entire edition. Finally, an invoicing batch is created and electronically passed to Great Plains Dynamics.

We enhanced and modified this program to perform similar functions for a local radio station. The application accepts information about radio program sponsorships and related advertisements. A play list can then be generated and interfaced to the station controller providing the necessary information including cart or tape numbers, time slots and spot lengths.

Order Processing, Inventory Control System

This is a comprehensive ERP system for a small distribution company. This replacement system significantly enhanced performance and functionality. The new system increased performance by upgrading the database to Microsoft SQL and moved the company into the present by providing Web Access and a true E-Commerce capability. The system provides real-time order processing and nearly immediate e-mail feedback to customers with shipping information, tracking numbers and confirmations.

Capacity Planning and Job Costing

This system shows the user what production jobs are currently consuming capacity in the shop and provides calculations for estimating throughput for new production jobs. The system takes into account partially completed jobs and estimates available capacity in various work centers and departments, allowing the user to estimate a delivery date for the customer early on in the quoting process. The system tracks selected job costs and provides a ‘learning center’ so the system constantly updates itself with new information, so it becomes more and more accurate over time.

EDI Release Control and Inventory Control System

Our client was moving into Electronic Data Interchange because a customer required it. Personnel were spending four hours per day reconciling fax copies of shipping schedules with shipments that had already been made but were still in transit. Our system reduced that time to less than ten minutes by providing an automated release control system that pulls new shipping schedule information, reconciles it with shipments in transit, and delivers a clean shipping and production schedule. This system is interfaced to the users’ accounting system as well as the users’ production control system.
